SNC advises that a Flood Watch Statement is being extended in anticipation of additional snowmelt and rainfall in the upcoming week.
Weather Forecast: Environment Canada is forecasting approximately 35 mm of rainfall over the next week, with up to 20 mm forecasted on Saturday, and the potential for an additional 15 mm of rainfall by next Friday. The City of Clarence-Rockland has declared a significant weather event due to an expected prolonged period of freezing rain. This weather may cause power outages, slippery surfaces, and falling branches due to ice accumulation.

Be Prepared – Special Weather Statement in Effect

As you may know, Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of significant ice accretion due to freezing rain. Forecasted conditions include:

  • Ice buildup: 5 to 15 mm, with some areas possibly exceeding 20 mm
  • Snow and ice pellets: 5 to 15 cm
  • Potential impacts: Slippery surfaces, broken tree branches, and utility outages
