Operator Lead Hand

Water, Sewer and Waste Management (one position)

Full-Time Position 40 hours/week

Position Summary

Under the direction of the division Supervisor, the Operator Lead Hand - Water, Sewer and Waste Management is responsible for the coordination and planning of short-term operational activities for their division. The Operator Lead Hand develops and maintains partnerships with various stakeholders from other municipal departments and outside contractors to deliver operational activities. They support the supervisor in the medium and long-term planning of their division's operations.   

The Operator Lead Hand coordinates the work of the division's employees, providing leadership, feedback and training to ensure the quality and quantity of work performed, while complying with occupational health and safety rules and standards.

If necessary, or at the request of the division Supervisor, the Operator Lead Hand will perform the tasks required of an operator in the division, to provide additional support to the team.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • Must have a minimum of five years' experience in a similar position, including coordination of operational activities and supervision of personnel. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards to be respected in the workplace (wearing of PPE, OHS procedures) as well as the various government laws governing health and safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English and French.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through excellent customer service, strong interpersonal skills, collaborative spirit and strong sense of teamwork.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery (compactor, front-end loader)
  • Class G driver's license.

Asset:

  • Class DZ driver's license.
  • Waste compactor operator training certificate.
  • Occupational health and safety training.
  • WHMIS training.
  • Basics of Landfill Operations (BOLO).
  • TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) training.
  • Training in planning, maintenance and management of public infrastructure.
  • General knowledge:
    • Drinking water treatment and distribution systems;
    • Wastewater collection and treatment systems;
    • Rainwater collection and treatment systems.
  • Experience with the use of technological tools (radiodetections, computer location programs).

Salary

Class 2 (blue collar) of the union salary scale: $25.66 to $32.75/hour.
