When either the bride-to-be or the groom-to-be makes application, the following identification must be presented for both parties in order for a marriage license to be issued:
- a birth certificate (including any change of name certificates) or
- a current passport; or
- a record of immigrant landing; and
- a Canadian citizenship card.
In addition to the above documents, a second piece of identification in the form of a government issued photo identification must also be presented for both parties of the intended marriage. This may be either a driver's license, passport or a BYID age of majority card.
Health Cards are not accepted as identification.
