A Special Air Quality Statement (SAQS) has been issued for the Eastern Ontario region, as smoke from wildfires is causing poor air quality that is expected to last from a few hours to a few days. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is advising residents to consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities while the statement is in effect. Residents of Clarence-Creek are advised to be aware of a recent bear sighting in the area.
If you encounter a bear:
- Do not turn and run.
- Back away slowly while keeping the bear in sight.
- Remain calm, make yourself appear larger, make loud noises, and throw rocks if needed.
In many cases, bears are simply passing through and will move on if there is no available food source.
