Position Summary
Reporting to the Division Supervisor, the Operator Lead Hand is responsible for coordinating and planning daily operations related to water, wastewater and solid waste services. The incumbent provides leadership and guidance to staff, ensures efficient and safe operations, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. When required, the Operator Lead Hand also assists with frontline operational duties to support the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the division’s day-to-day operational activities.
- Lead, coach, train and support team members.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, procedures and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal departments, contractors and external partners.
- Promote operational efficiency and effective use of resources.
- Assist the Supervisor with planning and service delivery initiatives.
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, including coordinating operations and supervising staff.
- Experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication and team-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects, operational activities and competing priorities while maintaining a high level of service and efficiency.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, regulations and best practices.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, including a compactor and front-end loader.
- Valid Class G driver's licence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French
Salary
Class 7 (blue collar) of the union salary scale: $33.48 à $38.76/hour.
