Operator Lead Hand – Water, Sewer and Waste Management

Status: Full-Time Position - 40 hours/week

Position Summary

Under the direction of the division Supervisor, the Operator Lead Hand - Water, Sewer and Waste Management is responsible for the coordination and planning of short-term operational activities for their division. The Operator Lead Hand develops and maintains partnerships with various stakeholders from other municipal departments and outside contractors to deliver operational activities. They support the supervisor in the medium and long-term planning of their division's operations.

The Operator Lead Hand coordinates the work of division employees by providing leadership, feedback, and the necessary training to ensure both the quality and quantity of work performed. He or she ensures compliance with workplace health and safety rules and standards, while also providing daily operational support and basic administrative support to the division’s operations.

If necessary, or at the request of the division Supervisor, the Operator Lead Hand will perform the tasks required of an operator in the division, to provide additional support to the team.

Requirements

· Must have a high school diploma.

· Must have a minimum of five years' experience in a similar position, including coordination of operational activities and supervision of personnel. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Demonstrates strong leadership and motivational abilities to foster effective teamwork.

· Ability to control activity-related expenditures in compliance with procurement policies, and to optimize the use of human and material resources.

· Demonstrates the ability to recommend operational improvements to the supervisor to optimize daily activities and enhance the quality of customer service.

· Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English and French.

· Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through excellent customer service, strong interpersonal skills, collaborative spirit and strong sense of teamwork.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.

· Knowledge of health and safety standards to be respected in the workplace (wearing of PPE, OHS procedures) as well as the various government laws governing health and safety in the workplace.

· Ability to operate heavy machinery (compactor, front-end loader)

· Class G driver's license.

Salary

Class 7 (blue collar) of the union salary scale: $33.48 à $38.76/hour.
