General information

The City of Clarence-Rockland delivers many of the essential services that support everyday life in our community. These include roads and street lighting, snow clearing, sidewalks, water and sewer services, waste collection and landfill operations, parks and recreation, fire services, library services, financial and administrative services, wedding solemnization and marriage licence services, Commissioner of Oaths services, and much more.

Some of the municipal taxes you pay are also directed to services delivered by partner organizations and upper-tier governments. These include the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, which provide important programs such as social services, childcare services, long-term care homes, and paramedic services.

Funding also supports:

  • The four local school boards (English Public, English Separate, French Public, and French Separate);
  • Watershed management and environmental protection through the South Nation Conservation Authority; and
  • Policing services provided by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Municipal government is closest to residents and plays a key role in shaping day-to-day community life, from maintaining roads and drinking water systems, to supporting recreation programs, emergency services, libraries, and local environmental protection.

Municipal elections in Ontario are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October. This schedule was established through provincial legislation in 2006 with the passage of Bill 81 (Schedule H), which set four-year terms for all municipal elected officials. Prior to this change, municipal elections were held every three years. For example, election years included 2000, 2003, and 2006.
