The Integrity Commissioner is an independent and impartial officer who reports directly to City Council. The role ensures members of Council uphold ethical standards and comply with the Code of Conduct and the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.
What Does the Integrity Commissioner Do?
Advisory Role
Provides confidential written or verbal advice to Council members on the Code of Conduct, the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, and other ethical matters.
Investigative Role
Reviews and investigates complaints regarding potential violations of the Code of Conduct. If a violation is found, the Commissioner may recommend sanctions such as suspension of remuneration, reprimand, or an apology.
Educational Role
Provides training and educational materials to Council members and local boards on ethics and integrity.
