Claims

Please note that depending on your claim's nature or complexity, it may take up to six months or longer to decide on your claim. We appreciate your patience in this regard. In the meantime, we recommend you reference the Citys claims webpage to understand how your particular claim is reviewed and assessed.

All claims submitted to the City receive full assessment using consistent criteria and are considered on the basis of the presence of legal liability or a legislative or regulatory requirement. Please note that the Claims Unit only makes payment where the City of Clarence-Rockland is legally liable for the damage or injury caused.

Should you wish to seek immediate compensation and/or arrange for repairs to damaged property, we strongly recommend you speak to your insurer to see whether compensation is available under your existing insurance policy (i.e. auto or home insurance). Your insurance company or broker can provide advice on how to deal with the repairs. Furthermore, if your insurer believes that the City is responsible, they may seek to recover against the City, on your behalf.

For vehicle damage claims, if your damage involves a plated/licensed City of Clarence-Rockland vehicle, under Ontarios no fault insurance system, you must report to your own auto insurer under Direct Compensation Property Damage Coverage. Your auto insurer will deal with your loss regardless of who is at fault. The City is unable to deal directly with this type of damage claim.

Should a claim be received by the City whereby it is determined that a contractor had control over the accident location at the time of the loss/damage, the Claims Unit will notify the claimant in writing that a contractor is responsible for their claim, and will provide the name and contact information of the contractor involved to the claimant so that they may pursue their claim directly with the responsible contractor. Should the contractor deny a claim for damage, loss or injury, the City cannot intervene directly on behalf of a Claimant.
