Types of Permits

There are three types of open air fire permits. Tenants require the approval of their landlord before applying.

 Our open air burn permits are processed through a third party platform by creating a free account at cr.burnpermits.com.

Special Occasion

Special occasion permits are considered on a case-by-case basis and:

  • are for open air burns which meet safety and zoning requirements but do not qualify for seasonal or permanent permits;
  • are valid for a specified period;

Seasonal

Seasonal permits are processed online and when all requirements are met, a digital copy is issued almost immediately. They:

  • are for open air fires and camp fires;
  • are valid for 12 months;

Permanent

Permanent permits are for screened containers such as fire pits, fire places, and burn barrels which will remain in a permanent position. They:

  • are valid only for the type of appliance as inspected with a spark arresting mesh;
  • require a site inspection;
  • do not expire if the location of the screened container has not changed or been altered;

Sight inspections are:

  • conducted Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm;
  • considered on a first-come basis;
  • may be subject to a waiting period for the inspector to visit;
  • included in the cost of the permit
Fire Safety Plans

The Ontario Fire Code requires a Fire Safety Plan for many properties and businesses. The plan must be reviewed regularly and any changes are required to be submitted to the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department.

Fire safety plans protect people from fire by making sure buildings have proper fire safety systems, equipment and procedures.

How to submit your Fire Safety Plan

Request your Fire Safety Plan by email at fireprevention@clarence-rockland.com.

When filling out the form:

  • type your information into the highlighted areas
  • fill in check boxes by double-clicking
  • delete information that does not apply to your building if you wish
  • adjust the table of contents if you delete any sections or pages

Tips:

  • choose the template that best suits your property
  • keep an electronic copy of your plan so changes can be made and submitted easily
