You know how, when you're renovating and removing walls, you always find things you didn't expect? Or the materials at the renovations center are purchased but not delivered on time. There's always something you didn't anticipate, making your project take longer. Our renovation project (reconstruction of St-Jean Street) is like that at the moment.
So here's the scoop on what's happening.
  • The delivery date for the streetlamps has been delayed. The project involves the construction of a sidewalk on one side of the street and a multi-use lane on the other. The safety of our children, pedestrians and cyclists is paramount, especially as it gets dark earlier and earlier at this time of year.
  • The paving team fell behind with the many rainy days of summer and never quite caught up.
  • And the final factor we only became aware of at the end of August, is that there are plenty of tree trunks buried under the existing road structure, north of Patricia Street. To add to the complexity, the natural gas line has been drilled through many of these tree trunks. This complicates the tree removal enormously.
Unfortunately, we have had to postpone the opening of St-Jean Street until October 20. Thank you for your understanding.
