CLARENCE-ROCKLAND – December 8, 2021 – The City of Clarence-Rockland's Municipal Council adopted its 2022 budget on December 6th. The property tax increase will be 2.95%, including 1% for road maintenance. The roads program has been in place for over 8 years and is intended to provide an additional and sustained investment in the improvement of our road infrastructure.

According to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), which assesses properties in Ontario, the average property in the City of Clarence-Rockland is currently valued at $310,000 (based on the 2016 assessment). For such a property, a tax rate increase of 2.95% represents an additional $62 for the year 2022.

The rate increases are 3% for water and sewer services as well as 4% for waste collection.

"The City recognizes the challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to residents, businesses and community organizations. The Municipal Council and the administration have worked tirelessly and have shown innovation during the deliberations to reduce the proposed tax rate from 4.09% to 2.95%, including 1% dedicated to road infrastructure, without cutting services or increasing our debt ratio,” said Mario Zanth, Mayor of the City of Clarence-Rockland.
