Simon Park - 1450 du Parc Avenue, Rockland
Thirty-four years have passed since one of the deadliest shootings of a group of women at the same time in Canada. On December 6, 1989, a man broke into Montreal's École Polytechnique, killing 14 women. They lost their lives because of their gender. This event left a profound mark on our history.
December 6 is now recognized as Canada's National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. In 2013, the United Counties of Prescott and Russell also declared December 6 the Day of Non-Violence, an initiative that gives us hope for a safer life for the children and women of our community.
