Province of Ontario Funds Construction of Saint-Jean Major Collector Road

The City of Clarence-Rockland is proud to announce that the construction of the Saint-Jean Major Collector Road will be made possible through the Province of Ontario's Housing-Enabling Core Servicing (HECS) stream under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). This project has been awarded $14,279,883.75 in funding, enabling the construction of 4,000 new housing units in the area.

The project will address the future requirements along parts of the 2.3 km length of the St. Jean Street–Montée Poupart Side Road corridor. The recommended solution involves widening the existing corridor and constructing roundabouts at major intersections. Once the project is completed, these upgrades will be complemented by continuous sidewalks, boulevards, and a multi-use pathway, ensuring accessibility and connectivity for all residents.

“This is exciting news for Clarence-Rockland! I’m happy to see that the Ontario government is investing in the Saint-Jean Major Collector Road project. This investment will support the construction of 4,000 new homes and improve traffic flow and safety. It’san important step in ensuring that municipalities have the infrastructure they need for growth. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have here in Clarence-Rockland,” said Stéphane Sarrazin, M.P.P. for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

Mayor Mario Zanth expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This investment is a game-changer for our community. The improvements to the Saint-Jean corridor will not only enhance safety and traffic flow but also create the foundation for thousands of new homes, helping us meet the needs of our growing population. It’s our commitment to work with our local builders by providing sound infrastructure. This is a major boost to the economic development of the municipality.”

The construction of the Saint-Jean Major Collector Road marks a significant step forward in Clarence-Rockland's vision for sustainable growth, providing essential infrastructure to support the development of vibrant, connected neighborhoods
