Important Info for Private Well Users during a Drought

News Releases
SNC declared a Level 3 Low Water Advisory on August 26th due to ongoing drought across the region.
If you rely on a private well, please take extra care — what you do now can help protect the aquifer and ensure your well keeps functioning.

Here are some important tips:

Use water conservatively: delay or reduce non-essential water uses (e.g. car washing, filling pools, watering lawns).
Never pour water down a well — it can damage the well and contaminate groundwater.
If you need well work, contact a licensed well contractor only. ontario.ca/page/find-licenced-well-contractors
If well yield drops or you’re seeing supply problems, contact the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Wells Help Desk. ontario.ca/page/wells-your-property
Consider alternatives like bulk water haulage or storage tanks where available.
