JANUARY 29, 2020

Dear Community Partners,
Below is an update on the status of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak globally, and the situation in
Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry and Prescott-Russell at this time.

On December 31, 2019, a cluster of cases of pneumonia was reported in Wuhan, China, and the cause
has been confirmed as a new coronavirus that has not previously been identified in humans. This virus
is now known as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus or 2019-nCoV.

The current situation is evolving. The extent and severity of illness caused by 2019 Novel Coronavirus
is still not fully known. New information is becoming available daily and a clearer picture is being
formed as this information is analyzed by provincial, national and international health agencies.

As of January 29, 2020:
There are currently 6049 confirmed cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus globally (including 132 deaths),
with the vast majority of these cases occurring in China. In Canada, 3 cases have been identified. Of
these, 2 cases have been confirmed in Toronto, and one case in British Columbia is considered
presumptive at this time (awaiting confirmation from the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg).

Please note that there are no suspected or confirmed cases in the counties of SDG or Prescott-
Russell at this time. Risk of infection is still considered low for our area, and across Canada.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) continues to work with our partners at the regional, provincial
and federal levels to monitor the situation, and is prepared to respond to any potential cases in our
area should they occur.
