There are three types of open air fire permits. Tenants require the approval of their landlord before applying.

Special occasion

Special occasion permits are considered on a case-by-case basis and:

  • are for open air burns which meet safety and zoning requirements but do not qualify for seasonal or permanent permits;
  • are valid for a specified period;
  • cost $28.00


Seasonal permits are processed online and when all requirements are met, a digital copy is issued almost immediately. They:


Permanent permits are for screened containers such as fire pits, fire places, and burn barrels which will remain in a permanent position. They:

  • are valid only for the type of appliance as inspected with a spark arresting mesh;
  • require a site inspection;
  • do not expire if the location of the screened container has not changed or been altered;
  • cost $28.00

Sight inspections are:

  • conducted Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm;
  • considered on a first-come basis;
  • may be subject to a waiting period for the inspector to visit;
  • included in the cost of the permit
