The City Adopts Its 2018 Budget

CLARENCE-ROCKLAND – December 5, 2017 – On December 4, the City of Clarence-Rockland’s Municipal Council adopted its budget with a tax increase of 2.84%, which represents an increase of $54 on the municipal portion of a tax bill for a property valued at $ 290,000. Water and sewer services will increase by 3 residential waste rates remain unchanged.

Highlights for 2018 include the construction of replacement fire stations #3 on Laurier and # 1 in Bourget, water access for properties in Clarence-Creek and Bourget, a $12.5 million improvement to the Sewer Plant and a new integrated library system.

The preliminary budget was presented to City Council on November 6, 2017. Council members then deliberated in Committees of the Whole on November 14, 15, 16 and 29, 2017. The City's capital budget amounts to $ 10.13 million and addresses the required investments associated with the growth, repair, maintenance and strategic capital investments planned for 2018.

The City of Clarence-Rockland had to contend with the announcement just days ago that its Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund grant was reduced by $ 108,900 Council was able to cushion this blow by reducing the capital budget and through savings achieved in the employee benefit program.
