CLARENCE-ROCKLAND – February 21, 2017 – The Clarence-Rockland Fire Department wishes to remind the population to be very careful on the Ottawa River as well as on any body of water.
“Due to warmer weather, there is increased water flow above and below the ice. This can lead to unsafe and unpredictable ice conditions,” said Fire Chief Brian Wilson.
Residents should always check the conditions before going on the ice as well as along the path they are taking. This will ensure adequate ice thickness as currents can erode the ice from underneath, making it hard to notice thin or weak ice.
