Safety tips from the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department

CLARENCE-ROCKLAND – February 15, 2017 – The Clarence-Rockland Fire Department wishes to remind the population to check and remove snow from certain places around their residence.

The recent snowstorms left important snow accumulation on the area. For this reason it is important to remove snow from the following locations:

  • Around the exhausts of the central heating system and water heater to prevent an incomplete combustion and potential accumulation of carbon monoxide,
  • Around the basement windows, especially if they are bedroom windows, which could prevent occupants from escaping in the event of an emergency,
  • Around natural gas meters and propane cylinders.

Residents should also ensure that their address is clearly visible so that emergency services can find them quickly. In conclusion, it is important to always check the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly, in addition to reviewing the evacuation plan.
